SPRING TO SUMMER OUTFITS / ON A BUDGET
In a week or so it will summer here in Australia, although I do have to admit that spring this year has been a tad disappointing. We’ve had more colder days than the beautiful spring time weather that we have been used to in the past. So whilst we’re in that wardrobe transitional period, there are basic spring outfits that you can still continue on wearing into summer and most basic pieces, you may already own in your wardrobe! I’ve chosen three outfits that I tend to wear a lot myself over the spring into summer. They are simple but yet so stylish and on-trend, and most importantly they are all very comfortable. All outfits in this post are based on a budget basis, as I believe fashion shouldn’t be about the dollar amount you’ve spent, it’s about how you wear it.
THE T-SHIRT DRESS OUTFIT
T-SHIRT DRESS: My wardrobe now would be incredibly lost without its collection of t-shirt dresses. I finally fell in love with the t-shirt dress about a year ago when I bought one from Zara. It’s burgundy and has the word, ‘Perfection’ written on the chest part of the dress and has two splits, one on each side. These dresses are (pun intended) perfection as they just work for me and really simplify my look by giving it a real street vibe edge to it but still remaining quite casual. The t-shirt dress is so simple that I can wear it so many different ways, whether its with my ripped jeans, leather pants or just adding my gladiator sandals or wedges. This is the type of staple you want in your wardrobe and it’s a style that won’t be going out of fashion for a very long time.
THE DENIM SHORTS OUTFIT
DENIM SHORTS: I go through phases where I will shorts so much in summer and then, the following summer I won’t wear them at all. But since shorts have had a style reinvention in the past few years with the ripped/distressed look added to them more so on denim shorts, I have worn them a-lot more (I am quite partial to the ripped/distressed look as you all know). Shorts are super easy to style and really just depends on how you are feeling. The key element with shorts is finding a length that you’re comfortable with you. Not all short leg lengths will suit everyone and not everyone will be comfortable with certain ‘short short’ lengths. So whether its a casual type of day, or you’re going out at night and want to glam up. You can style them with sandals, slides, ballerina flats for a casual look if going out shopping, meeting a friend for a coffee or to the beach. And if you’re going out at night, style them with wedges, sandals or sling-backs.
THE PLAYSUIT OUTFIT
PLAYSUIT: The playsuit is the unmissable wardrobe item for both spring and summer. It is chic and a comfortable, and is just perfect whether you wear it for the day as well as the evening. Playsuits and jumpsuits have enjoyed a definite resurgence in popularity in the last few seasons and has become my signature style for the past four years. Many people tend to box playsuits and jumpsuits only as for children. But don’t be fooled! Playsuits (and jumpsuits) are NOT just for kids or even just for young girls. there are certainly no rules to suggest that women, even into middle age, cannot carry off the look in a classy way. It’s all about choosing a piece that is age-appropriate, figure-appropriate and also, occasion-appropriate. Make sure your playsuit fits properly: it shouldn’t be too tight and it should feel comfortable and be relaxed in its fit, also make sure when it fits your body length. If you’re tall, a smaller size might give you a wedgie (awkward!) and if you’re short, a larger size might be too baggy around the hips and butt. You can style them with sandals, slides, ballerina flats for a casual look if going out shopping, meeting a friend for a coffee or to the beach. And if you’re going out at night, style them with wedges, sandals or heels.
So tell me, what’s your go to spring to summer casual outfit look that you love to wear?
